Cylindrical probes have been traditionally used as a general purpose compression device used for applying a deformation load to a sample such as gelatin or pastes. They are commonly used to determine the get strength and elasticity of a sample. Cylindrical probes are also useful for applying a shearing force to a sample to determine the breaking strength. The "Bloom Value" is a recognized standard for quoting the strength of a gel structure, such as gelatin. Cylindrical probes are available with imperial or metric diameter cylinders. These probes have an M6 male thread.
